Arc Eye Hawkfish (Paracirrhites arcatus)

The Arc Eye Hawkfish is a bold and charismatic predator, named for the distinct crescent-shaped marking behind its eye. Its mottled reddish-brown body, accented with subtle gold and orange tones, allows it to blend perfectly into rocky reef structures while it perches and scans for prey.

Native to the Indo-Pacific, this hawkfish is an active hunter that will eagerly feed on small crustaceans and meaty frozen foods. Known for its confident personality, it often perches on rock ledges or coral branches, watching everything happening in the tank.

  • Scientific Name: Paracirrhites arcatus

  • Temperament: Semi-aggressive — may eat small shrimp and tiny fish

  • Reef Safe: With caution (safe with corals but may consume small inverts)

  • Diet: Carnivore — enjoys frozen mysis, krill, chopped seafood, and pellets

  • Care Level: Easy

  • Max Size: ~5 inches

  • Tank Size: 50+ gallons with rock ledges for perching

Note: Best suited for tanks without very small shrimp or nano fish. Provide plenty of rockwork for perches and hiding spots. Known to be hardy and long-lived with proper care.

If you want, I can also make a Predator Tank Essentials section for listings like this so customers know exactly what they can and can’t keep with it.
