Flame Angelfish (Centropyge loriculus)

The Flame Angelfish is one of the most striking and sought-after dwarf angelfish, showcasing a fiery red-orange bodywith vertical black bars and electric blue edging on the dorsal and anal fins. Its vivid coloration and active swimming behavior make it a centerpiece in both reef and fish-only aquariums.

Native to the tropical waters of the Pacific, particularly around the Marshall Islands and Christmas Island, the Flame Angel is a hardy and adaptable species when provided with a mature, stable environment.

  • Scientific Name: Centropyge loriculus

  • Temperament: Semi-aggressive

  • Reef Safe: With caution (may nip at LPS, SPS polyps, and clam mantles)

  • Diet: Omnivore — thrives on a varied diet of marine algae, spirulina-based foods, mysis shrimp, and high-quality pellets

  • Care Level: Easy to Moderate

  • Max Size: ~4 inches

  • Tank Size: 55+ gallons with plenty of live rock for grazing and hiding

Note: While many Flame Angels do well in reef tanks, individual behavior can vary. Monitor closely if kept with delicate corals or clams. Best kept singly unless in a large system with other dwarf angels introduced carefully.
