Purple Tang
Purple Tang (Zebrasoma xanthurum)
The Purple Tang is one of the most sought-after surgeonfish in the hobby, prized for its deep violet body, contrasting yellow tail, and subtle facial markings. Native to the Red Sea, this striking tang is not only a visual showpiece but also an active grazer that helps control nuisance algae in the aquarium.
Known for its hardiness and energetic swimming, the Purple Tang thrives in large, established reef or fish-only systems. While generally peaceful toward most tankmates, it can be territorial toward other tangs, especially those of similar body shape.
